Governor Gavin Newsom has signed into law a bill sponsored by NAIOP SoCal that extends the public notice period for zoning changes from 10 to 20 days. This new legislation aims to give communities and stakeholders more time to understand and respond to proposed zoning amendments. By doubling the notice period, the bill ensures more transparency and allows for greater public participation in land-use decisions, which is crucial as California continues to tackle housing shortages and urban development.

The extension of the notice period is seen as a win for local communities and developers alike, providing them with more time to assess the impacts of potential zoning changes. This legislation represents a balanced approach to addressing both community concerns and the state's pressing need for new development projects.
